You said "lock it in the console." To me, a locked console or glovebox is not something that can be readily broken into or accidentally opened during transport. If you're just sticking it into the standard non-locking console, I don't think so. Also under those facts, you could leave it in an unattended vehicle without a trunk if the console "securely locked" (seems like a higher standard than in (c)) or your doors are locked/windows closed.

IANYL: Since I don't know what jurisdiction you're in and haven't done the slightest research.
