Artificial low fuel prices etc.

The roads are good here. In germany they are even better and some don't have even a maximum speed limit, just a 'suggested' speed.
The (in)famous 'autobahns'. Not much experience with them though.

To give you some idea about the road taxes (not sure,plucked them from first website I found):

Personal car
- 750 Kg E 152,-/year
- 1000 Kg E 264,-/year
- 1250 Kg E 392.-/year

Benzine (petrol? unleaded) price:
- Netherlands: E 1.15/liter
- Germany: E 1.07/liter
