you should just be able to rename it from bookmarks.bak to bookmarks.html... I would drag a copy to desktop, rename it to bookmarks.html and then open it and see if it looks like your bookmarks are there. If so, drag the renamed file back into the original file and overwrite the existing [emptier] one
