The govt really has no right to know who sends me stuff or how it is addressed. And if they were photocopying every postcard - that too is an over-the-top privacy violation.

of course, if a postal worker read a postcard and some al-queda guy wrote out bombing plans on it and mailed it to a conspirator, well, they should probably not try to claim privacy violations. ;)
