Mrs. [my last name], I tell them they have the wrong number. I don't bother telling them "It's Miss/Ms" because I figure if it's someone I want to talk to, they know I'm not married.
Same thing if they ask for Mr. [my last name]. I don't bother saying "he doesn't exist", or "my father doesn't live here", I just tell them they've got the wrong number.
Usually it works. Though sometimes they correct themselves and ask for me by first and last name. Sometimes they ask for the head of the household or they ask if this is the [my last name] residence. They've started getting smarter about that, I guess. I should probably start outright lying at that point and insist they still have the wrong number, but I'm honest to a fault. As soon as it's clear it's a sales pitch I tell them I'm not interested.
Of course, this hasn't been a big problem since the Do Not Call lists went into effect. I still get calls from charities and political organizations, though... |
