Sounds like they keep track of the send-to names on letters that go through their system and actually keep records of them and refer to those records when someone tries to make a claim for benefits.
So when he's unemployed at the end of this contract and tries to make a claim for unemployment benefits, they'll look up his records and see that he's been receiving mail for Mr. & Mrs. [his name], and assume that he's married and thereby penalize his benefits, or something.
I don't understand it either because in the US we don't track that sort of thing and we realize that direct mail advertisers get things wrong an awful lot.
Heck, they spell my name wrong all the time.
However, McNutcase works in a UK benefits office, so he knows what it is they look at when trying to determine whether to give someone benefits. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. |
