It turns out that my solution to Petals (see below) was logically correct, and that I only needed to link the solution to the name of the game. Before I did so, I googled this game to check out what it was about. And what do I get, in the first google snippet: "Just like in the petals game, you have to look at [3##!^& SPOILER]."
AAARGH!
I could have figured that out myself in anything between 2 minutes and a week, and I would have been satisfied. Now I feel like a cheat, and like a child deprived of a prize, simultaneously. I am not happy; I will never be able to call myself a true Potentate of the Rose, which was part of the anticipated reward. I can only show the game to my friends, as an 'unordained Potentate', or 'acting Potentate'.
