dealing with fear of rejection by dennismv 2005-03-10 00:36:06
How do you deal with fear of rejection ?

Suppose you are about to enter a situation where you may get rejected/booted off/asked to leave/etc.

I usually try to avoid these situations, or find my way around them. However, this is not always possible. The more I think about the situation, the more I'm afraid of the possible rejection, even though it didn't happen yet and may never happen !!

From experience, when rejection has happened when I didn't expect it, I dealt with things just fine, even though I didn't like the rejection itself. However, when I knowingly enter a situation where I may get rejected, I get an adrenalin rush and all my flags go up. Sometimes I chicken out, and at times I keep going. Also, when I know I will or even might enter a situation like this somewhere in the future, I'm freaking out and stressing out all the time before the event, and have the possibility of rejection on my mind. AAAH !!! How do I deal with this ?
