In fact, I have hopped from industry to industry with ease. There simply was very little new work for engineers--indeed, any technical personnel, that year: indeed, companies were dropping engineers left and right, in reorganizations inspired by predatory, company-gutting-to-the-point-of-ruination asshats like Jack Welch (whose first name is best followed by the opposite of "on").
As for for your extolling the virtues of those who "worked their way up to management without degrees", well, "bully for them". For me, it would be a step down to take on the job of some pointy-haired 1D10T who could "qualify" with an Associates Degree from Joe Blows Local College of Business and Basketweaving, after busting my cojones for four years earning one of the toughest undergraduate degrees possible in the modern world, in order to do work about which I actually _give_ a d4.
Frankly, I AM ***EXTREMELY*** INSULTED that you chose to belittle me, not to mention my skills, which normally earn me quite a decent living, rather than respond to my counter argument to your idiotic, blanket assertion that "people on minimum wage shouldn't be taking care of kids", and your apparent assumption that minimum wage implies wet behind the ears and just entered the job market.
Instead, you jumped on an issue I didn't even address, trivialized my example with "crap happens" (which, ultimately, was my point), followed by an _ad_hominen_. How decent of you, to resort to the debate tactics of a cornered rat. Well, guess what: I can give as good as I get!
