There is PC3200 (aka DDR400) and there is PC2700 (aka DDR333)
That motherboard/processor should work fine with either of the above or anything faster than that, but not PC2100/DDR266 or slower. That Sempron runs at a 333MHz FSB so DDR333 or better will downclock fine on the RAM (as far as the processor is concerned). IF it's PC3200/DDR400 RAM, setting it in BIOS to run at 333MHz may make it more stable. The A7V8X boards are kinda touchy about what DDR400 RAM they'll take.
The 'PC' speed used to be the speed of the RAM (back in the 66/100/133 days with PII/PIII), but now it's the bandwidth of the RAM in MB/sec (roughly) and the DDR number is the speed (well, double the speed in megahertz but ya get the point; the FSB on AMD chips is also generally double the actual bus speed in MHz; for trivia, p4's busses are 4x the speed in MHz, hence the early use of RDRAM and now dual channel DDR). |
