away money toward your retirement. With children, you have to feed, clothe and buy school supplies until you have little or no money left over. They're an expensive hobby. If you're foolish enough to pin your hopes on your kids taking care of you, you deserve to end up in some hellhole of a nursing home.

The money flow between a parent and a child is usually downward. There should be no expectation of an upward flow of resources. Since kids don't ask to be born, the onus of their care is on the parent who chose to bring them into the world. Kids owe their parents nothing.
