...on a payday loan they can make you "roll over" your original loan. So if you can't pay off the loan you took out, you take out another one to pay for the first one, with the interest compounding and numerous "fees."

Also, usury laws mean nothing here. A finance company can set up in a state without usury laws (or very lax ones) and "export" those interest rates to the rest of the states - ever wonder why so many credit card companies are out of Delaware?
