Though there is little question that the Church has placed a number of feasts specifically to coincide (and ostensbily, interfere) with non-Christian celebrations, an observance on the first day of the week, distinct from Shabbat--both of which were observed by the earliest, mostly Jewish Christians--is actually recorded in the Christian Scriptures, as well as other, early, Christian writings.
The first day observance, being linked to the Resurrection, came to be considered "more important"; so when secular pressures and the need for survival came to bear on the situation, the Shabbat was, practically speaking, dropped like a hot rock by the Church at large, which was no longer predominantly Jewish[1]; though faint noises about observing something like it, in conjunction with the Christian "Lord's Day", have continued ever since.

[1] Indeed, some communities of Gentile Christians may never have observed a Shabbat, as such. |
