For a sore throat, try chicken soup, chicken bullion, tea (decaf if you want to sleep), wanton soup, or miso soup. Anything hot and salty (and liquid) will help - miso soup is my personal favorite. The salt helps soothe your throat and will help you retain fluids too, which is a good thing when you have a cold or flu.
Lots of vitamin c is important. Orange juice has lots of it.
A few days' bedrest should help a lot - I know it's boring as hell, but your body will need all the rest it can get to fight the flu.
The most important thing is to make sure that you don't develop pneumonia. The bedrest should help with that, as should the vitamin c.
