So very confused... by Glum_Reaper2005-03-08 12:41:35
  Is this a religious thing? by Peace_man 2005-03-08 13:30:37
I have always been taught that the week is based on Genesis, where it says 'and on the seventh day He rested'. Which means that the last day of the week is the day of rest.

Back when I was growing up, there was no rest on Saturdays - we worked half a day - so Sunday was definitively the day of rest. But to Jews, Saturday has always been the day of rest.

Does this mean that the European calendar is based on the Christian definition of the week, while the US calendar is based on the Jewish definition, or is there something else at work?
