started (as a typo yes, but it caught on) on a flyer at a Science Fiction convention years ago. It has become a general term used to describe any sci-fi, fantasy or comedy song that you would hear at conventions. Some big names in the world of filk are Heather Alexander, Leslie Fish, and Tom Smith. Just about any sci-fi or fantasy con has an area set aside for filkers.
