and the light doesn't flicker in the slightest. and its cheaper to replace the whole lamp than spending the time finding an identical switch.

Unfortunately my only linux experience is with Knoppix and that won't boot on this system. Just gives me a black screen. (See my "Knoppix Question" TLP above.)
