according to the Conservative Movement you have no need to worry about any protocol because you're not really supposed to say kaddish for a non relative. I'm not saying its wrong, i'm saying you have no worries as to what you're supposed to do. Uncharted territory. (The source of this information is from the West Coast US Rabbinical School (University of Judaism Zeigler School) from when we were following the Hamagshimim (Hadassah's College Youth Movement)'s program to say kaddish for the victims of terror in Israel.)
