One of the possible reasons for them denying the request, once you let a renter have cats that's it for that property if it has carpet. Heck even if it doesn't, you still get cat hair hiding everywhere. Anyone with a cat allergy can't move into that space once you leave unless the owner pays a substantial amount to remove all traces of kitty.

I feel for you, my wife and I had to pass up so many wonderful places because they didn't allow cats or wanted to charge us unreasonable amounts of money for "pet rent".
