*cackle* never underestimate the power of... by deadweasle 2005-02-28 22:14:28
fear of someone else willing to do your job to motivate...

There exists in our area a non-profit, no-kill kitty shelter. It has a website, and my wife would peek at said site everyday and lust after cute fuzzy things we can't bring home (our lease only allows for our present 2 cats). Well a month and a 1/2 ago said website went splat.

After several days of downtime and a big bit of busy time, checking this site fell out of my wife's daily routine until this weekend. She checked, it was still down - so I said I'd do something about it. I called and talked to one of the volunteers, who told me they had someone working on it but they've been taking forever and had said it was because they had to re-write the scripts (VB/ASP) but to talk to the shelter manager on Monday since she hasn't heard anything from them.

So bright and shiny this morning I called and left a message on their machine, an offer to volunteer to put it back up for them stating that for something as simple as what they had, it shouldn't have taken this long. I'd have them back online before the end of the week.

Well as of midnight (EST) the site went blank, my wife peeked before she went to bed, and now there is a bare bones version up. Of course there are script errors on a few pages, formatting problems on a bunch of others but definitely a site. *chuckles* Apparently someone else willing to do the work put a fire under someone's heinie. Yay! for kitties having browsable adoption pages again. If they leave that donation form up in its present state though, I'm going to have to tell them to smack their developer person. Right now it's submitting visa/mastercard info over a plain http connection. *eye roll*
