We don't realize quite how "big" we are till we travel outside our country and see everybody else, and then come back. And foreign exchange students, in a moment of honesty, will comment on it too (and usually live to tell the tale!)

This concerns me because while we certainly don't need anorexic standards of beauty, the chunky style can be unhealthy. As more of us get that way, we may consider it "normal" to be a dangerously unhealthy weight.

I should look into becoming more active in city politics here. We have lots of college students, and I think our larger and medium sized cities should do better on crosswalks and public transport. As more of us graduate with staggering student debt, adding a car loan on top becomes less and less feasible. I shudder at the thought of my elderly car dying. I wish I could take more steps to conserve gas and mileage, but it's just not practical.
