...that drivers only have to lower their foot on the gas. The law is the law. If you caused an accident as a cyclist and appeared before a judge and your defense was "I didn't want to break my stride because it wastes too much effort" s/he'd be right to throw you in jail and let you think about that for a while.

If no traffic is around and the light is red, I don't see a problem. Not even if I'm in a car, say at 3:00 in the morning.
