Contrary to popular belief, a cyclist does not have a special set of laws that apply to them on the road. You are either a vehicle or a pedestrian; this means, for example, if you want to cross at a crosswalk, you get off your bike and walk it across. If you ride across you are effectively a vehicle and are breaking the law.

I know this because I've been involved with cycling advocacy in the past. The above rules apply in Canada. YMMV.
