By Loki that was cathartic by Illiad 2005-02-28 16:06:45
One of the Top Ten Things that Annoy Me include people who completely disregard rules of society (or its laws!) because it's inconvenient for them otherwise. But hey, everyone else should follow the rules, right?

Allow me to set the stage. My vehicle is northbound in a left-hand turn lane. The lane has an advanced green (aka a dedicated green) so that people who want to turn left at this very busy intersection have a chance to do so that's better than a snowball's in Dante's Ninth Ring:

              D| |
---------------| |------------
    - - - - - -
---------------| A |------------
              C| B |

So there's a car at A, I'm at B. The target of my bile and ire was a woman in her 20s at C.

The advanced green comes on, halting all traffic except for my left-hand turn lane and the one opposite us. Vehicle at A moves into the intersection to complete the left-hand turn and I'm behind her. But no! The pedestrian at C is crossing the road and heading for D, thereby blocking everyone in the left-hand turn lane! And she saunters across, not really in a hurry. The pedestrian light at that crosswalk has the big red DO NOT WALK icon lit up.

The woman driving vehicle A clearly doesn't have her wits about her, so I lean on my horn and roll down my window. I'm aware of how very long the line of cars behind me in the left-hand lane is, and the lights at this intersection are interminably long. Finally, the pedestrian gets to the sidewalk, and vehicle A completes the turn. So do I -- just barely. The advanced green goes dark and cross traffic is permitted to go.

An advanced green that should've allowed some fifteen or so cars through was spoiled by a pedestrian that clearly has a complete disregard for traffic signals and other people around her. I pulled up to the curb to where she was standing at her bus stop and in a period of sixty seconds drove home the point that she was self-centred, arrogant and a complete waste of oxygen. I didn't swear once, although I did rather loudly label her a "selfish, putrid bint."

She stared at me in shock whilst a couple of older folks sitting at the bus stop applauded after my rant ended.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm proud of what I did, but by God it felt good to do so.
