I am NOT happy! by ChuckAB 2005-02-28 13:49:51
Spent considerable time building a new W2K installation. Had it tweaked to my satisfaction and did what I've been doing for 5 years: Boot up my DOS boot disk, run PowerQuest Drive Image and create a copy of the boot volume. Then I ran SYSPREP to prepare the volume for duplication. Ran Drive Image again to create the image I plan to dump on the rest of the machines I'm loading. All is good so far.

Tried to restore the original image before I ran SYSPREP to bring the machine back to original condition "Image file is invalid or corrupted." --- WHAAAAA - ?
OK - Restore the "prep'd" image and just run the mini setup and rejoin it to the domain. "Image file is invalid or corrupted."

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Since the restore process requires empty space on the disk, the subject partition had already been deleted. All that work down the drain.

I backed up to and attempted to restore from a network drive. I copied the image file (1.9GB) to another network resource to try again - no go.

<sigh>

*drags out W2K CD to start over*
