Say (via text messaging) that Person A will give a prize to Person B if he can guess person A's middle name;

"I want X"
"Only if you guess my middle name"
Person A promptly calls a mutual friend and gets the name from said friend for $15.
"*responds with middle name"
"You couldn't have guessed that, you must have cheated"

So, what's the verdict here? Does person B owe Person A the prize? Is Person A a cheater or is Person B a welcher?
