Shoddy road maintenance, poor road construction & lots of salt in the winter.

Junker cars rarely survive more than 1 or 2 winters here. They either dissolve into a heap of rust, or fall apart trying to get down one of the freeways.

(If you need to replace the wheel rims more often than your wiper blades, something's wrong.)
