I have finally found the subsubsubmenue where I could make my monitor type known to the system. Phew. or to quote "My mind is clearer now..." It is - for anyone who might be lost like me - under: Systemsettings -> Anzeige (might be screen in English) -> Hardware. There I could choose my monitor and after that I had the coice of the right resolutions and after a restart of kde .... .... there it was: 1152x864 Thank you anyway for answering me. Anja
