US opinions and the rest of the world... by Evil_Minion2005-02-27 21:36:54
I'd have to disagree by Kickstart 2005-02-27 23:03:00
Not only do the wants and opinions of the U.S. get listened to, the U.S. threatens and cajoles its way to making sure those opinions get followed on a constant basis. Do you really think the UK would have followed the US into war in Iraq without some serious political pressure? Or Ghaddafi suddenly become a WMD-free nice-guy instead of the insane dictator that the US portrayed him as in the 80s? Or many other instances where US want and opinion mattered and achieved the US goal?

The problem is, the US says all these things and wants all these things, yet doesn't appreciate that they are 5% of the population of the planet. Putting aside the wealth of the US, people are going to take offense when they see a small amount of people attempting to make decisions that affect a large number of others.

There really are so many examples throughout history of the US acting as if it owns the world. It only takes a few such examples before the rest of the world realizes that they are sick of playing with the schoolyard know-it-all (I don't say bully, because it rarely is specifically that. 'Know-it-all' covers it well, however).
