I want to present something though that not all relationships are like this. There are some good people who don't use their power over other people. For example, I met my partner when I was 18, not too far away from 17. He was more than twice my age. We have been together now for 7 years. We are in a good and loving relationship.
On the other hand there are some adult relationships where there's a wife with an abusive husband. Society sees them as "normal consentual relationship", yet the wife is being abused. I bet there are even people who are able to manipulate a person any age into something the person doesn't want.
Thus I wouldn't say a relationship is bad or abusive if there is a age difference, even if a significant one.
I guess age does matter somewhat, however. Not the age really but the experience. The more experience kids have, the more "on the level" with adults they are, and are more able to make informed decisions of what to do or what not to do. |
