If you get something that your immune system isn't able to put down, it may be necessary to get drugs - couple of years ago, I caught something that stayed with me for over 3 weeks - ended up getting dragged to the doctor by me mudder; turned out to be some stripe of walking pneumonia, so they prescribed a 14-day course of antibiotics to beat it down. 3 weeks worth of choking up blood-tinged sputum was =not= fun. :(
