...just because something is a taboo does not mean that it's harmful to challenge.
Admittedly, most taboos were built up for perfectly good reasons, but that's all the *more* reason to examine the taboos and decide if they apply.
I'm sure a large part of the taboos against homosexuality built up over the fact that an entirely homosexual individual cannot have children. In the modern day with our marvels of medical sciences (and not to mention our overpopulation!) this isn't a valid reason for society to restrict homosexuality. But, because it's a taboo, many homosexuals are still persecuted, even killed. Terrible stuff. And for what? To encourage them to have children? Honestly! Let's re-examine and challenge this taboo. Or give me a better reason for it to exist.
Some are still very important, and I consider the taboo against pedophilia (and the taboo against having a couple with a huge age difference, even if both consenting ages) to be important. |
