I'm interested in it because I want to go into game design.

Just think of it like this.

Physical Damage
higher strength -> more damage
higher enemy defense -> less damage
higher accuracy -> better hit percent
higher enemy evasion -> lower hit percent
higher luck -> higher hit percent, higher chance of critical hit
higher enemy luck -> lower hit percent, lower chance of critical hit
enemy protect -> half damage
enemy armor break -> double damage, negate armored
piercing -> penetrate armored
enemy armored -> MUCH lower damage
darkness -> you can't hit s4
enemy (aeon) shield -> 1/4 x damage
enemy defend -> 1/2 x damage
critical hit -> 2 x damage

Magic Damage
higher spell power -> more damage
higher magic power -> more damage
higher enemy magic defense -> less damage
enemy shell -> 1/2 x damage
enemy (aeon) shield -> 1/4 x damage

Wrist Damage
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome -> OUCH!
