"morally deficient, even despicable." by McGowan 2005-02-27 05:09:36
Homosexuality was called that not so long ago.

IMHO any sexual act that doesn't involve the consent of all people involved is rape simple as and should be punished as such. A minor should never be legally allowed to give consent to such an act the problem is in defining when a child is a minor and when a child is an adult. While working at camp the 15/16 year old boys were obvously entering sexual maturity and the girls I believe were far more mature. For a 15 year old girl to give consent to a 17/18 year old I think thats ok. For a 15 year old girl to consent to someone older, ie 20+ I think thats wrong but on the other hand, the 20+ shouldn't be getting a life sentance or anything like that because in their mind and in the mind of the person they were with they were doing nothing wrong.

Now take into account that people mature at different rates, can a 12 year old be as mentally mature as a 16 year old? In some cases yes. Does that give them the right to give consent? Maybe, maybe not. I'd prefer not.

paedophiles that prey on the really young, be it considered a disease or just a sexuality should be locked up or given help depending on the individual case, there is nothing in my mind that can justify anyone over the age of 20 sleeping with anyone under the age of 16.

It is important for us to remember that what happens in our youth shapes who we are going to be in the immediate future and possibly the rest of our lives, adults have a responsibility a duty of care and we owe the young every possible chance at having a enjoyable childhood and a productive and fullfilling life.
