pedophilia by dennismv2005-02-27 01:33:21
Thank-you for raising an interesting discussion. by Glum_Reaper 2005-02-27 03:21:19
And I'm glad I haven't seen "OMG j00 r all sick ped0s" ;)

I don't agree with some points, for example, Monika_Krug, you say that paedophilia is treatable, and that sufferers are not born that way. There have been a great many documented cases where the paedophile is perfectly capable of having a normal sexual relationship (i.e.: those that have married and have children) yet still go on to abuse children, even their own. I would suggest that it can equally be induced by nature and nurture, after all nurture would surely produce sets of brothers who all had this disorder.

My conclusion, paedophilia is a type of sexuality like homosexuality, but we should not confuse the disorder with the crime. I'm sure there exist paedophiles who go to the grave never having harmed a child, although they may have desired it, likewise before homosexuality became acceptable there were people who simply lived with these strange and tabooed urges. The crime should be punished, and generally it is where proven, however what we as a society are lacking is the option to treat or help those who have the disorder, but are too afriad to reveal it for fear of being accused of the crime.

<SpellingNazi> You missed the 'a' from paedophile </SpellingNazi>
