Regarding my (and other's) complaining about users by rogue19712005-02-14 18:28:42
fun tech story by gabboqbriggs 2005-02-14 20:10:23

A few years back I worked front line tech support for a small ISP. I received a call my THIRD WEEK there (this is important, well to me anyway) it was a very friendly lady who was unable to connect to the internet, no dial tone right? So I trapse through windows settings, modem settings, everything looks good, ask the lady if her computer was plugged into a phone line: "how would I check that?" she asked! I asked her if there was a phone cord running from her computer to the wall she said, and this is the priceless part "what's a phone cord?" ARGH! so I instructed her to go to a local electronic store and tell them she needed to plug her computer into a phone line. Problem solved as far as I was concerned.

fate, it seems, is not without a sense of humor. the following day, I am taking calls when the guy sitting next to me goes on his break. as soon as he hits the do not disturb button on his phone mine rings. I answer it and it is a very nice lady who says "I talked to a guy yesterday who told me to get a,, phone cord?,,," o_O

honestly it was a fun job I enjoyed my co-workers immensly, most of our callers were very nice, I was cussed out by a pastor once, but that was honestly more amusing than offensive (the fact that I continued to be polite REALLY set him off). My six months there were a lot better than my one month at "big blue retail electronic store" THAT was the worst month of my life,,,
