(over on the other side of the keyboard - in a group of 3 keys on the top row - no, not the backspace key - further up and right - no, not the tab key; the other right - do you see the three little lights? - the key may have two words on it: Pause and Break - Ah, you found it? Good. Now --- what? Nothing happened? Were you holding the "Windows" key when you hit it? No? Well, try it again. Hold the Windows key and then hit the pause/break key and then let both go. Did you get a display pop up on your screen? Good. What does it say? ...)
One of my other setups is the following instruction:
Now. To help me figure out what's wrong with your machine, I'm going to have you pretend to be my fingers and eyes. You read the screen to me and then type or click on what I tell you. Okay?
If they want to offer their own opinion, I remind them that they're supposed to be just reading the screen and doing what I tell them. It doesn't always work, but when it does it works REAL well. |
