A good cup of homebrewed coffee by DaNutBall2005-02-14 10:46:23

Too salty usually means it's been roasted too dark, which is a trait of the big coffee shops and mass ground coffee producers (To make you drink more to kill the thirst), so adding salt is not good, besides it ruins the flavour anyway, bitter indicates not enough coffee and/or a brew process that is too long.

How you should make your coffee though depends on how you want it to taste and aftertaste.

From what you say I'd suggest something like a light roast Kenya AA or medium roast Columbian.
I would recommend Jamaican Blue Mountain, like vampire does, but it's quite pricey for what it is, but it is worth a try and you can honestly tell someone that you have tasted the finest coffee produced :) Although Guatemalan is very fine and honeyish, but has a bitterness initially like most strong roasts.
Brew for about 4 - 5 minutes in water about 95C.
