But windows makes all the interface far easier for them. These things have USB, ethernet, CD burners, multiple video outs etc... A full PC OS is the way to go for cost and flexability.

I prefered it when they were using unix/linux but since all their data analasys tools have to be written for windows anyway why not run it on the scope and you can use the same tools on there.
Unfortuatly it does make economic sense for the scope vendor and it's not like there are enough around that you can ignore one because you don't like the OS they use.

We just make sure IS never know it runs windows and keep it off the network. I hate to think what would happen if they tried to bring it into line with company policy for windows machines. As it is it's probably the most secure computer in the building.
