Perl's configure script is mad: | by LionsPhil | 2005-02-14 03:40:09 |
| This isn't your father's configure! |

Unlike some other configure scripts I could mention, Perl's is more fun (downright flippant) to run. It doesn't spew random and repetitive stuff at you, but it does get the job done. Here's another couple of extracts that most people won't see:
ARGGGHHHH!!!!!
SCO csh still thinks true is false. Write to SCO today and tell them that next
year Configure ought to "rm /bin/csh" unless they fix their blasted shell. :-)
(Actually, Configure ought to just patch csh in place. Hmm. Hmmmmm. All
we'd have to do is go in and swap the && and || tokens, wherever they are.)
[End of diatribe. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...]
NOTE: that is not the SCO that is currently involved in lawsuits. This SCO was a company that produced a Unix that ran on 386 boxes...;-)
There is, however, a strange, musty smell in the air that reminds me of
something...hmm...yes...I've got it...there's a VMS nearby, or I'm a Blit.
It's actually quite a humorous read (for a shell script). Just don't try to patch it...
