| ...just reminds me that I simply can't fathom why anyone would want to vote for someone who has made it clear that he wants to make the world safer and more comfortable for the Rich White (Judeo-)Christians*. This, of course, means that other cultures and their ways of life must be repressed.
Unless, that is, you're someone who buys into that particular worldview. I suspect most, though not all, of those people are at least two of the three: Rich. White. (Judeo-)Christian*.
I harken back to an anecdote my half-Hispanic wife told me: she was on a plane on the way back from a work conference in Florida. A decidedly Rich White woman was sitting in a row a bit ahead of her having a chat with what appeared to be another Rich White woman, and my wife's ears perked up when the first one mentioned that she had just come back from a vacation in the Dominican Republic, my wife's home country.
So all the comments are "oh it's so relaxing, the water is so blue, the sand is so powdery soft" until they started talking about the country outside of the confines of the resort. "It's dirty out there, and nobody speaks English. But give it a few years, we'll make it all nice and clean and educate them."
Given my wife's distinctly Spanish temper, I'm surprised she didn't go over and give the woman a piece of her mind. Heck, if I was there I would've gone out of my way to "accidently" spill the Faux-Pork Medallions in Salt Gravy into that snotty sow's lap.
*Disclaimer, to be clear: I speak only of the "Christians" that form the less-than-tolerant-only-we-can-be-correct-so-do-as-we-say Religious Right. You know...the ones who have just about cornered the market on being sanctimonious. |
