Wow. I'll be shooting in the dark now.
It could be a question of filesystem compatibility. The server volume might have to be formatted HFS.
I'd imagine that 'File Sharing' in this case would be controlled by Linux permissions.
It's also possible that Linux has AppleTalk support for routing purposes only. It may not be able to act as a file server.
Like I said, shooting in the dark.
Now you've given me something to try at home one of these days.
