any scuba people here? by fireballmatt 2005-02-11 14:05:48
I'm going on a cruise in August and there is a scuba certification package that I can purchase that will give me a PADI cert. at the end of the cruise. Its going for $250.00 and includes all equipment used, as well as at least 12 hours of instruction and diving. The big dive is 4.5 hours long, the rest is either in the classroom or in the pool on board the ship.

My question is, is it worth it? They also offer just a 2.5 hours beginners type thing where you spend 45 minutes for a shakedown and 15 minutes in waist deep water learning to breathe from the bottle...then the following 1.5 hours are spent at 25 feet or so. (that option is $99.00)

My girlfriend, who will be with me is open to either...she agrees that we shouldnt spend the $250 a pop unless we plan on using the cert later (which we will) and is interested in doing either.
