Taking the classic of "Asians are studious and especially good at math" stereotype:

If you're an Asian who *isn't* good at math and would rather be at soccer practice than in the library, you're less than you "should" be. There's pressure to live up to the positive stereotype, and if it just isn't you, you're a failure.

If you're an Asian who does happen to be good at math, the stereotype can take away from your accomplishment. Of *course* you're good at math; you're *supposed* to be good at math; so whaddya want, a brass band? The skill isn't your own; it's your ethnicity's.
