Very limited battery life (at most 4 hours) which is used up faster the more you talk. Has about 2-5 km range. 5 km would be in Richmond, away from any buildings. Flatness only.
Having used ambulance quality radios (also Motorola), I am not a big fan of the small units. For acceptable range in any sort of terrain, you will want a real ($800 or more per) set of radios. Note that to get one of these radios as an owner, you will have to get them licenced.
The FRS type (the small type) are glorified walkie-talkies. Unless you have a specific need (aka are at the cabin away from celphone service), you would be better off with a good qwality set of phones. If you are out camping, these radios would be OK if you are within about 2 km of each-other, but can not be relied upon as life-safety equipment.
