More source code archaeology by MatthewDBA 2006-11-19 12:55:59

Following up on this comment and this one that I made a few months ago, on the subject of resurrecting the paranoid chatbot "Parry" (designed in 1970 or so to be run on a PDP-10):

I let it drop for a while because I was busy but yesterday and today I've come up with a bunch of references (ARS doesn't want to let me link to ftp://reports.stanford.edu/pub/cstr/reports/cs/tr/68/92/CS-TR-68-92.pd f). I'd like to try reviving the program (by all accounts it was far ahead of Eliza, and seems to have fooled at least half of the psychologists who interacted with it), but I'm still trying to figure out the languages and poke around to see how the whole thing is organized. (Not to mention learning two new languages, one of which is designed for a computer that hasn't been manufactured in at least 25 years.)

If anyone is interested in joining in (I could definitely use all the help I can get!), you're welcome to contact me or put a note in my diary.
