Okay, so North Korea is saying they have nuclear weapons and are demanding bilateral-only talks with the US. We've rejected their demand, saying we'll instead only participate in six-way negotiations with them, including Russia, China, South Korea, and Japan. Here's a link to one article, but there are plenty more out there: Click. I also really liked this commentary on the situation: Click
It seems to me that this was a good decision on our part, as we have not allowed DPRK to get any kind of upper-hand, or think they can use their new "nuclear capabilities" as political leverage, while at the same time, keeping close ties with the other regional countries involved.
On the other hand, it seems trivial to have a few bi-lateral talks to appease the irritable Kim Jong-il, what would it hurt? Maybe he wants to ask Bush if they might want to take over the world together. In addition, the US uses its military might as political leverage, so why can't DPRK, just because we view them as evil?
