What is the best way to secure a WAP? by Rattler2005-02-11 09:07:12
While impossible to secure *all* points, this help by jayfarm 2005-02-11 09:29:51
Change the SSID name to something somewhat random. Things like 'linksys' or 'homenetwork' or 'wireless' are bad choices.

Turn on the highest possible encrpytion. A WEP is better than nothing, even though it doesn't live up to the whole 'wired equivalancy' part of it's name.

Turn off SSID broadcast. This one when combined with the first one make it pretty hard to find you have an AP, as well as figure out how to connect it. If it's not saying "Here I am" most people won't see it.

Definately enable MAC filtering - this is probably one of the best.

Any of these individually will help, but if ya do them all it's generally the best you could do.

Someone who REALLY wanted to get in, will be able to pretty much no matter what you do, save for unplugging it.
