So, what do you do if a cow-orker has an offensive by Evil_Minion2005-02-11 00:20:08
Hey, folks, let's back off. by tskelton 2005-02-11 06:20:53
Evil Minion has stated strong reasons to *not* disclose the IM name being found offensive. Continuing to nag asking for the name is counter-productive, and heaps even more pressure on somebody (somebody we like, I'll point out) who already is under a bunch of stress.

My own two cents' worth of advice to Evil: put the offensive IM nick on your "banned" list -- the list of names from which your IM client will automatically reject messages. If called on it, just blithely explain, "Oh, I found that name offensive so I put it on my banned list so I wouldn't have to see it any more," and pretend you're a blonde (air-head, whatever you want to use as a clueless role model). If cow-orker wants to IM you, s/he will have to use a different nick.
