First of all, please excuse if I wrote too much nonsense, but English isn't my native language. Writing this text brought me close to the limits of my proficiency.
I think there is a lot of truth in this article.
What deranged me most was, that he said that Europeans would not like the American people now. From my personal point of view I think this is exaggerated. I rather feel pity for those people who re-elected Bush, because I think the mass-media manipulated them to feel it was the very best thing to do. About half of the American people tried to get rid of him though. This is great!
Anyhow what I do dislike about the American government is that they always make the rest of the world feel unimportant. Well, imagine you're a kid again. How would you feel about another, stronger kid who claims to be your friend, but is always having his own way, completely ignoring your wishes and desires if it's not for his advantage? Someone who just makes his own rules if he doesn't fancy yours? Someone who just expect that you obey him because he is stronger than you?
I think a lot of the current differences between the US and Europe would be resolved if the American government would treat Europe as an equivalent partner. Even if it means to accept a compromise that isn't for the advantage of the US.
Signing Kyoto, for example, instead of promising to find an own way that turned out to be just vapor. |
